Vladimir Kramnik Wins Yuri Razuvaev Memorial on Chess.com

He defeated Evgeny Tomashevsky in the play-off.


The tournament in memory of Yuri Razuvaev (1945-2012), the prominent grandmaster and coach, was held on Chess.com on November 6, having featured such chess stars as Vladimir Kramnik, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Boris Gelfand, Evgeny Tomashevsky, Alexander Motylev, Mikhail Kobalia, Vladimir Potkin, and Joel Lautier. 

Evgeny Tomashevsky took the first place in the round-robin blitz tournament having scored 6 points out of 7. Vladimir Kramnik and Ian Nepomniachtchi are half a point behind. Thanks to the superior tiebreak, Kramnik finished on the second place.

According to the Regulations, the winner of the round-robin tournament and the runner-up played the match for the first place consisting of two blitz games and the Armageddon, if necessary. 

The 14th world champion won the first game as Black, while the second encounter ended in a draw. Having defeated Evgeny Tomashevsky 1.5-0.5, Vladimir Kramnik became the winner of the Yuri Razuvaev Memorial.
