Vladislav Artemiev Wins European Individual Championship

Eight Russian players qualify for World Cup.


The European Individual Championship finished in Skopje, North Macedonia. One of the young leaders of the Russian chess Vladislav Artemiev gained another big victory. He became the European champion having scored 8.5 points out of 11 and edged out Nils Grandelius (Sweden). Kacper Piorun (Poland) took the third place with 8 points.

The first 22 players have qualified for the next World Cup. Among them there are the Russians Grigoriy Oparin, Andrey Esipenko, Nikita Petrov, Alexandr Predke, and Aleksandr Rakhmanov. Daniil Dubov (23) and Igor Lysyj (24) have also qualified for the World Cup as several players from Top-22 had already had this right after the previous European Championship.
