Vladislav Artemiev Wins Swiss Tie-break of European Hybrid Qualification

The European Hybrid Qualification Tournament for the FIDE World Cup finished on Tornelo on May 30. The best thirty-six participants played a Swiss rapid tie-break. 

The Russian Vladislav Artemiev took the first place, having scored 6.5 points out of 9 and edged out Aleksandar Indjic (Serbia). Pavel Ponkratov (Russia) won bronze. 

It is to be reminded that fourteen Russian players qualified for the FIDE Wold Cup. These are Vladislav Artemiev, Evgeny Tomashevsky, Maxim Matlakov, Vladimir Fedoseev, Sanan Sjugirov, Grigoriy Oparin, Alexander Motylev, Pavel Ponkratov, Evgeny Alekseev, Vadim Zvjaginsev, Boris Savchenko, and Nikita Afanasiev. 

The participants played online from the approved tournament halls. There were two such centres in Russia: in Moscow (Central Chess Club) and in Saint Petersburg (Mednyi Vsadnik chess club).
