Sergey Karjkain Joins Peter Svidler in the World Cup Final

Both Russians will also participate in the 2016 Candidates tournament.

The tie-break of the World Cup Semifinal match between Sergej Karjakin and Pavel Eljanov was played on September 29 in Baku.

The Ukrainian managed to win the first rapid game in a very fine positional style. In the second game Karjakin equalized the score, demonstrating an impeccable technique.

The match proceeded to 10+10 games. Karjakin won the first game as Black due to a terrible blunder of the opponent. In the second game, being in a very difficult and probably lost position, Karjakin spotted a threefold repetition and correctly claimed a draw, which secured him a match win.

September 30 is a rest day.

The final match of the World Cup is a Russian clash between Peter Svidler and Sergey Karjakin. The first game is played on October 1, Svidler has White.
