World Senior Championship Begins in Bucharest

Russia is represented by 26 players.


First games of the World Senior Championship were played in the capital of Romania on November 12. Men and women play separately in "50+" and "65+" age groups. In total, 366 players from 58 countries take part in the event. Russia is represented by 26 players.

The Russians FM Evgenij Lagunov and Sergei Ivanov started with wins in the "50+" group. GM Evgeny Sveshnikov, GM Yuri Balashov, IM Evgenij Kalegin, IM Alexander Filipenko, Alexander Yakimenko, Boris Tsynman, IM Leonid Raikin, and FM Boris Furman achieved victories in the "65+" category.    

In the women's "50+" event, the Russian WGMs Galina Strutinskaia and Tatiana Bogumil as well as WIM Ilena Krasenkova and Nataliya Monastyrenko won their first games. WGM Valentina Kozlovskaya and WIM Tamara Sorokina celebrated victories in the "65+ group.
