World Team Championships Officially Opened in Astana

The 2019 World Team Championships were officially opened in the capital of Kazakhstan on March 4. Minister of Culture and Sport of the Republic of Kazakhstan Arystanbek Muhamediuly, FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich, and President of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation Galimzhan Yessenov gave speeches at the ceremony. 

The drawing of lots was held as well: team captains were invited on the scene one by one to draw the starting numbers.

Men:

1. India, 2. Iran, 3. Egypt, 4. China, 5. England, 6. Kazakhstan, 7. Azerbaijan, 8. USA, 9. Russia, 10. Sweden

Round 1 pairings:

India - Sweden, Iran - Russia, Egypt - USA, China - Azerbaijan, England - Kazakhstan

Women:

1. Armenia, 2. Russia, 3. India, 4. China, 5. USA, 6. Ukraine, 7. Hungary, 8. Georgia, 9. Kazakhstan, 10. Egypt

Round 1 pairings:

Armenia - Egypt, Russia - Kazakhstan, India - Georgia, China - Hungary, USA - Ukraine

Tournament on Chess-Results

The match days: May 5-9 and 11-14. Free day is March 10. Rounds start at 3 p.m. local time, while the final round begins at 12:00 p.m. (local time).
