FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championships Start in Warsaw

The rating favourites are Magnus Carlsen and Kateryna Lagno.

The FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championships are taking place in the capital of Poland on 25-31 December. 

The preliminary starting lists of the open tournaments include the world champion Magnus Carlsen (Norway), Hikaru Nakamura, Fabiano Caruana (both from the USA), Ian Nepomniachtchi, Vladislav Artemiev, Alexander Grischuk, Sergey Karjakin (all representing CFR), Alireza Firouzja, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (both from France), Jan-Krzysztof Duda (Poland), Anish Giri (the Netherlands), and many other well-known players. 

The women's tournaments feature Kateryna Lagno, Aleksandra Goryachkina, Alexandra Kosteniuk, Valentina Gunina (all representing CFR), Anna and Mariya Muzychuk (both from Ukraine), Humpy Koneru (India), Antoaneta Stefanova (Bulgaria) and others. 

The rapid tournaments consist of 13 rounds in the open section and 11 in the women's, while there will be 21 blitz rounds in the open tournament and 17 in the women's. 

The match days: 26-28 December - rapid, 29-30 December - blitz.
