Russian Players Take Ten World Cadet & Youth Blitz Championship Medals

The city of Batumi farewells the World Cadet & Youth Blitz Championship. The tournament saw 426 young players, including 50 Russians playing under the FIDE flag. Russian chess players have taken ten medals: five gold, three silver, and two bronze ones.

A fresh winner of the World Cadets Rapid Championship, Sergey Sklokin made a "golden double" by drumming up 9.5 out of 11 points in the U10 group of boys. Kristina Zavivaeva got "bronze" in the U10 group of girls with 7.5 points. Prokhor Moskvinov became champion in the open U12 group with 9.5 points. Egor Korelskiy finished second with 8.5 points under his belt. 

IM Savva Vetokhin became the World blitz champion in the open U14 group with 9 points to his credit. The silver taker IM Artem Uskov finished one point behind. WFM Alexandra Shvedova has built on her success in the rapid section by taking first in the U16 group of girls. The champion has scored 10 points. Alena Volchkova came third with 8 points. Same as in rapid chess, GM Volodar Murzin took first in the U18 open group (with 10.5 points) as well, and IM Aleksey Grebnev finished second with 9.5 points. 

Thus, Russian athletes became record-holders in terms of the number of medals taken at the World Cadet & Youth Blitz Championships in Batumi.
