First Round of Russian Championships Higher League Played in Yaroslavl
It didn't go without surprises.
First round games of the Russian Championships Higher League were played in Yaroslavl on June 27.
Some unexpected results happened. For example, several rating favourites lost their games: Vladimir Fedoseev fell under Ilia Iljiushenok's dangerous attack, Pavel Ponkratov lost to Evgeny Levin, Kirill Alekseenko to Alexandr Triapishko, Denis Khismatullin to Renat Bigaliev, and Mikhail Kobalia to Oleg Rychkov. In the women's event, Zarina Shafigullina defeated a higher rated Alina Bivol.
All games are broadcast online with a 15-minute delay.
