Radoslaw Wojtaszek Advances to Semifinal of FIDE Grand Prix Leg in Moscow

Three matches go into tie-breaks.

The second games of the quarterfinals of the FIDE Grand Prix leg in Moscow were played in the Central Chess Club on May 21. The first symbolic move in the game Nepomniachtchi - Wei Yi was made by Evgeny Kaspersky, CEO of Kaspersky Lab.

Radoslaw Wojtaszek (Poland) defeated Peter Svidler (Russia) to win the match 1.5-0.5 and to qualify for the semifinal. 

The games Dubov - Nakamura, So - Grischuk, and Nepomniachtchi - Wei Yi, and Svidler – Wojtaszek were drawn and proceed to tie-breaks, which will be played on May 22.



After a drawing of colors, 2 tie-break games are played with time control of 25 minutes for each player + 10 seconds increment per move, starting from move 1. If the score is still, then after a new drawing of colors, 2 games are played with time control of 10 minutes for each player + 10 seconds increment per move, starting from move 1. If the scores are level after these games, then after a new drawing of colors, 2 games are played with time control of 5 minutes for each player + 3 seconds increment per move, starting from move 1.

If the score is still level, then 1 sudden death game is played. The player who wins the drawing of lots may choose the color. The player with the white pieces receives 5 minutes; the player with the black pieces receives 4 minutes whereupon; after move 60, both players receive an increment of 2 seconds per move starting from move 61. In case of a draw the player with the black pieces is declared the winner.
