2017 World Cup: Pairings Are Published

The tournament will take place in Tbilisi, September 2-27

FIDE has published the pairings tree for the 1st round of the World Cup, which will take place in the capital of Georiga, on September 2-27. 128 chess players, including the reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen, will take part in the event. The tournament is a knock-out event. There shall be 6 rounds of matches comprising 2 games per round, with the winners progressing to the next round, plus the final 7th round comprising of 4 games.  The winner and the runner up of the World Cup 2017 will qualify to the Candidates Tournament 2018.

Opponents of the Russian players: 

Kramnik-Dai, Grischuk-El Gindy, Karjakin-Smirnov, Nepomniachtchi-Palac, Svidler-Vakhidov, Fedoseev-Bacallao Alonso, Matlakov-Sadorra, Vitiugov-Kulaots, Tomashevsky-Antipov, Najer-Aleksandrov, Andreikin-Goganov, Inarkiev-Mchedlishvili, Artemiev-Bok, Motylev-Xiong, Dubov-Friedman, Grachev-Melkumyan, Dreev-Bachmann, and Areshchenko-Demchenko. 

Colours for the 1st game will be carried out at the Opening Ceremony on September 2.
