2 Rounds of Viktor Korchnoi Memorial Are Played in Saint Petersburg

Rating favourites suffer first losses.

Viktor Korchnoi Memorial, a stage of the Russian Cup, is taking place in Saint Petersburg. The venue is Hotel Park located on a picturesque Krestovsky Island. Many strong grandmasters are taking part in the event. After the classical tournament, a stage of the RAPID Grand Prix, blitz and bughouse tournaments will be played as part of the open chess festival St Petersburg Summer-2017.

The Chief Arbiter is IA Mikhail Kryukov, the head of the Organising Committee is IO Vladimir Bykov, President of the Saint Petersburg Chess Federation.  

42 chess players are leading after 2 rounds, but there have already happened first losses of rating favourites. For example, the tournament's №1 GM Gata Kamsky made a draw with IM Timur Khakimov, while the Spanish grandmaster Cristobal Henriquez Villagra drew with FM Kirill Klukin.
