Aleksandra Goryachkina Wins Sixth Game at Women's Candidates Tournament

Kateryna Lagno is 2.5 points behind.


The ninth round of the FIDE Women's Candidates Tournament was played in Kazan on June 10. Aleksandra Goryachkina defeated Valentina Gunina, Tan Zhongyi lost to Mariya Muzychuk, while Anna Muzychuk outplayed Nana Dzagnidze. The game A. Kosteniuk - K. Lagno ended in a draw.

The winner of the FIDE Women’s Candidates Tournament qualifies for the World Championship Match with Ju Wenjun (China), where both players will compete for a total prize fund of €500,000, which is 150% percent bigger than in the previous championship match.

The organizers are FIDE, Russian Chess Federation, Government of the Republic of Tatarstan, Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan, and city administration of Kazan.
