Alexandr Predke Strengthens Leadership at Russian Championship Higher League

Elena Tomilova heads the women's section.


The fifth round games of the Russian Championships Higher League were played in Yaroslavl on July 1. Alexandr Predke is leading the race in the open section with 4.5 points. Maksim Chigaev, Ilia Iljushenok, Andrey Esipenko, Konstantin Sakaev, Denis Khismatullin, Sanan Sjugirov, Alexey Sarana, and Alexander Motylev and one point behind. The following games will be played in the sixth round: Sjugirov - Predke, Motylev - Esipenko, Khistmatullin - Sarana, and Iljushenok - Dreev (3 points).

Elena Tomilova is heading the women's section with 4.5 points. Polina Shuvalova, Zarina Shafigullina, Daria Charochkina, Anastasiya Protopopova, and Ekaterina Kovalevskaya are trailing by half a point. The games Kovalevskaya - Tomilova, Shuvalova - Shafigullina, and Charochkina - Protopopova Potapova will be played in Round 6. 

July 2nd is the tournament's free day. A simultaneous exhibition by the Russian national team's coaches will be held for the local chess players.
