Alexandra Kosteniuk Wins Women’s FIDE Grand Prix Leg in Monaco

Aleksandra Goryachkina takes bronze.


The final games of the Women’s FIDE Grand Prix leg were played in Monaco on December 14. 

Humpy Koneru defeated the leader Aleksandra Goryachkina, Alexandra Kosteniuk beat Elisabeth Paehtz to catch up with her compatriot as well, Kateryna Lagno outplayed Pia Cramling, while Dronavalli Harika lost to Zhao Xue. The games M. Muzychuk - N. Dzagnidze and A. Muzychuk - V. Gunina were drawn.




Alexandra Kosteniuk, Humpy Koneru, and Aleksandra Goryachkina scored 7 points out of 11. Due to superior tiebreak, Kosteniuk became the winner of the tournament, Humpy Koneru won silver, while Goryachkina finished on the third place.

1-3. Alexandra Kosteniuk, Humpy Koneru, Aleksandra Goryachkina - 7
4. Kateryna Lagno - 6.5
5. Anna Muzychuk - 6
6-8. Dronavalli Harika, Pia Cramling, Mariya Muzychuk - 5.5
9-10. Zhao Xue, Nana Dzagnidze - 5
11. Elisabeth Paehtz - 4
12. Valentina Gunina - 2.

After two WGP legs, the leaders are Humpy Koneru (293 points), Aleksandra Goryachkina (253 points), Kateryna Lagno (180), and Alexandra Kosteniuk (178 points). The world champion Ju Wenjun has scored 120 points but she participated only in one WGP event.

The next WGP leg will take place in Lausanne, Switzerland, on March 1-14, 2020.
