The ancient Uzbek city of Samarkand continues the FIDE World Rapid Championships (Swiss system, 13 rounds in the open section, 11 in the women's section; time control 15+10).
Anastasia Bodnaruk of Russia has grabbed the lead in the women's tournament - she has 7 points out of 8. Humpy Koneru (India) and Zhai Mo (China) are half a point behind her, and seven participants, including Russians Aleksandra Goryachkina, Leya Garifullina, and Kateryna Lagno, are one point behind.
In the open section, Magnus Carlsen (Norway), Vladimir Fedoseev (Slovenia), and Yu Yangyi (China) have each scored 7 points out of 9. Among those who are half a point behind are Russians Daniil Dubov, Volodar Murzin, and Dmitry Andreikin. Arseniy Nesterov, Maxim Matlakov, Alexander Grischuk, Ian Nepomniachtchi, and Andrey Esipenko have scored 6 points.
Wednesday, December 28, will see the last four and three rounds in the open and women's events respectively.
