Anton Demchenko Becomes New European Champion

The European Individual Championship has finished in Reykjavik. In the final 11th round, the Russian Anton Demchenko drew with Bogdan-Daniel Deac (Romania) and became the new European champion, having scored 8.5 points . Vincent Keymer (Germany) is second due to the inferior tiebreak. Alexey Sarana (Russia) won bronze with 8 points, having edged out Bogdan-Daniel Deac. 

The tournament was a qualifying event for the FIDE World Cup 2023 with 23 qualification spots. Apart from Demchenko and Sarana, the Russian Mikhail Antipov made it to the World Cup.
