Belgorod Hosts Russian Youth Team Championship

29 teams are participating.

The Opening Ceremony of the Russian Team Championship among boys and girls under 19 years old and the 7th Belogorie Cup took place at the Youth Cultural Center of Belgorod National Research University. 29 teams (trainees of sports schools and chess centers) from 13 regions of Russia are taking part in the event. Young sportsmen came to Belgorod from Moscow and Moscow Oblast, Kurgan, Saint Petersburg, Simferopol, Chelyabinsk Oblast, Pskov Oblast, Tyumen Oblast, Tolyatti, Orel, Arkhangelsk, and Smolensk. Belgorod Oblast is represented by the chess players from sports schools of Belgorod and Alekseevka, and by students of Belgorod National Research University. 

Representatives of the Government of Belgorod Oblast, Administration of Belgorod National Research University, non-governmental and sports organizations took part in the Opening Ceremony.  

The Chairman of the Belgorod Oblast Chess Federation Alexander Ivanov thanked the Rector of Belgorod National Research University for the accommodation of all participants, said thank you to all partners who supported the event, and wished good luck to young chess players. 

Artists of the Art-studio Veresk of the Youth Cultural Center of Belgorod National Research University created a festive atmosphere for the guests. 

Round 1 of the classical event was played right after the Opening Ceremony. The participants will play rapid and blitz tournaments as well. 

The competition finishes on August 12.
