Bocharov And Khlichkova Win Siberian Federal District Championship

The event gathered a record-breaking number of participants.

The Siberian Federal District Championship in rapid chess took place on April 9-10 in Novosibirsk. The number of players was the highest in recent years – the event gathered 134 players, including several grandmasters. The tournament was played in the State Public Scientific Library of Russian Academy of Science and organized by Novosibirsk chess federation and RATM Holding.

The strongest player of Novosibirsk region Dmitry Bocharov won the men's tournament. Vladislav Artemiev from Omsk was second, FIDE master Yan Dzhumgaliev from Novosibirsk was third.

“There were no tournaments of such a high level in Novosibirsk for ten years, I think”, said Bocharov. “The event went smoothly thanks to well-planned work of Novosibirsk regional chess federation. I am very happy to be able to play in such a well-represented tournament at home, and I really wanted to win, despite not being the main favorite – objectively Vladislav Artemiev's chances were higher. Other opponents are well-known to me, and I knew how to deal with them.”

International master from Bersk Tatiana Khlichkova won the women's championship. WFM Anastasia Zotova from Kemerovo took the second place, WFM Olga Danilyuk from Novosibirsk finished third.
