Boris Grachev Wins Mark Dvoretsky Memorial in Moscow

Ernesto Inarkiev is second, while Mikhail Kobalia is third.


The Mark Dvoretsky Memorial finished in the Central Chess Club in Moscow. Ten well-known players, the majority of whom had been Mark Dvoretsky's trainees over the years, took part in the rapid round-robin event.   

Boris Grachev and Ernesto Inarkiev scored 6.5 points out of 9 each; however, Grachev became the tournament winner thanks to his superior tie-break (direct encounter). Mikhail Kobalia got 5.5 points and edged out Vadim Zvjaginsev to win bronze. 

Final standings:

1. Boris Grachev. 2. Ernesto Inarkiev - 6.5 points 
3. Mikhail Kobalia, 4. Vadim Zvjaginsev - 5.5
5-7. Andrey Esipenko, Nikita Vitiugov, Volodar Murzin - 5
8. Boris Savchenko - 2.5
9. Valentina Gunina - 2
10. Rudik Makarian - 1,5.

 

Mark Dvoretsky's son Leonid, CFR Executive Director Mark Glukhovsky, and the tournament's organiser, editor-in-chief of the CFR website Vladimir Barsky gave out rewards at the closing ceremony. 

Leonid Dvoretsky presented the participants with the certificates for using Mark Dvoretsky's online training course.

Boris Grachev, Ernesto Inarkiev, Boris Savchenko, Mikhail Kobalia, and Sergey Janovsky shared their impressions of Mark Dvoretsky. Sergey Janovsky announced the laureates of the Mark Dvoretsky Awards. This year, the Awards was won by Rudik Makarian and his coach Viktor Tchernyi, as well as Volodar Murzin and his coach Mikhail Kobalia. Yana Zhapova, Valeria Kleymenova, and Diana Preobrazhenskaya will get their prizes during the Russian Youth Championships in Sochi.
