European Club Cup Starts in Antalya

Russia is represented by 5 teams.

On October 7, the 33rd European Club Cup and the 22nd European Club Cup for Women start in Antalya. In the open event the teams are composed of 6 players and 2 reserves, while in the women’s tournament the teams consist of 4 players and 1 reserve.

36 teams are taking part in the open tournament. Russia is represented by 3 teams, including the rating favourite Globus (Vladimir Kramnik, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Alexander Grischuk, Sergey Karjakin, Anish Giri, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Anton Korobov, Danis Khismatullin, Rtg-Ø:2772), Mednyi Vsadnik (Peter Svidler, Vladimir Fedoseev, Maxim Matlakov, Nikita Vitiugov, Maxim Rodshtein, Ildar Khairullin, Aleksey Goganov, Rtg-Ø:2711), and Legacy Square Capital (Evgeniy Najer, Ernesto Inarkiev, Vladimir Malakhov, Boris Grachev, Vadim Zvjaginsev, Ivan Popov, Rtg-Ø:2663). 

12 teams will be fighting for the prizes of the women’s competition. The top seed is Batumi Chess Club NONA (Rtg-Ø:2495). The Russian teams Ugra (Olga Girya, Natalija Pogonina, Anna Ushenina, Marina Nechaeva, Baira Kovanova, Rtg-Ø:2462) and Legacy Square Capital (Alina Kashlinskaya, Ekaterina Kovalevskaya, Daria Voit, Anastasia Savina, Rtg-Ø:2401) are placed 2nd and 3rd respectively in the staring list. 

The championships will be held in 7 rounds, played under the Swiss system.

Match days: October 8-14. Rounds begin at 3 p.m. (Moscow time). 

The 88th FIDE Congress will be held in Antalya in parallel with the European Club Cup (October 7-15).
