Evgeny Sveshnikov Shares First Place at World Senior Championship

The ultimate round is ahead.

Rounds 10 (open) and 8 (women) are played at the World Senior Championship in Acqui Terme, Italy. 

The leaders of the 65+ group are Anatoly Vaisser (France), Arkady Shevelev (Israel), Vlastimil Jansa (Czech Republic), Lothar Vogt (Germany), Eugenio Torre (Philippines), and Evgeny Sveshnikov (Russia) - 7.5/10. Ten players are half a point behind; the Russians Yuri Balashov, Evgeny Vasiukov, Alexander Lisenko, and Vladimir Stepovoj are among them. The 65+ women’s championship is headed by Nona Gaprindashvili and Tamar Khmiadashvili (both from Georgia) - 6.5/8. Natalia Titorenko and Elena Fatalibekova (both from Russia) are trailing by 1 point. 

Julio Granda Zuniga (Peru) is leading the race in the 50+ tournament with 9 points out of 10. Evgenij Kalegin has got 7 points. Elvira Berend (Luxembourg) is leading the 50+ women’s event with 6.5 points out of 8. Galina Strutinskaia and Tatiana Bogumil (both from Russia) have scored 6 and 5.5 points respectively.
