First Games of Final WGP Leg Played in Gibraltar

Valentina Gunina started with a victory.

The first round of the final leg of the Women’s FIDE Grand Prix was played on May 22 in Gibraltar. 

The Russian Valentina Gunina, who had Black against her compatriot Alina Kashlinskaya, found herself in a difficult position with an exchange down but still managed to outwit her opponent to win the game eventually. Elisabeth Paehtz defeated Irina Bulmaga, while Zhansaya Abdumalik bested Dinara Saduakassova in the Kazakh derby. The games Dzagnidze - Lagno, Mammadzada - Stefanova, and M. Muzychuk - A. Muzychuk were drawn.
