First Stage of the Grand Chess Tour Starts in Paris

Russia is represented by Alexander Grischuk and Sergey Karjakin.

The first stage of the Grand Chess Tour will take place in Paris from June 21 till June 25. 

Top world grandmasters Magnus Carlsen (Norway), Wesley So (USA), Fabiano Caruana (USA), Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan), Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France), Hikaru Nakamura (USA), Sergey Karjakin (Russia), Alexander Grischuk (Russia), Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria), Etienne Bacrot (France) will play rapid and blitz according to the round-robin system.  

Time control: rapid – 25 minutes + 10 seconds per move, blitz – 5 minutes + 3 seconds per move.

The scoring formula for the first half is 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, while in blitz a more standard chess scoring is used.

Total prize fund is $150,000.

The match days: rapid – June 21-23, blitz – June 24-25.
