FTX Crypto Cup Begins on Chess24.com

Anish Giri has taken the lead.


The FTX Crypto Cup, the 6th event on the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour with the prize fund of $320k and sponsors FTX providing a $100k Bitcoin bonus, started on Chess24.com on May 23. 

On the first match day, the participant played five rounds. Anish Giri has taken the sole lead with 4 points. Hikaru Nakamura, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, and Wesley So are half a point behind.

Magnus Carlsen and Ian Nepomniachtchi have scored 2.5 points each. Their game took place in the second round, where the Norwegian as White won the exchange after this opponent's mistake. Nevertheless, the Russian managed to confuse his rival and escape the loss eventually.
