Gelfand-Inarkiev Match Starts With Armageddon

A chess festival opens in Magas.

On Monday, July 11, grandmasters Boris Gelfand (Israel) and Ernesto Inarkiev (Russia) arrived to Magas, capital of the Republic of Ingushetia, to play a friendly match over the course of ten days. They will compete in six classical games (2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw) and six rapid games (1 points for a win, 0.5 points for a draw). If the match is tied, the winner will be determined in an Armageddon game.

The official opening ceremony will take place on July 12. In order to determine the colors in the first game, Gelfand and Inarkiev will play another Armageddon game.

The chess festival has other competitions alongside the match, including North Causasus Hopes children tournament, as well as seminars for arbiters, trainers, and chess teachers.

The all-Russian chess festival Tower of Consent is observed by Yunus-bek Evkurov, Head of Ingushetia, and supported by Alikhan Kharskiev.
