Ian Nepomniachtchi Advances to FIDE World Fischer Random Championship Play-Off

His rival in the semi-final will be Magnus Carlsen.

The group Stage of the Final Tournament of the 2022 FIDE World Fischer Random Championship is completed in Reykjavik. The participants had been divided into two groups, in which they played a double round-robin event. Each match was best-of-2 games with a player having one game with White and one game with black from the same initial position. 

The top two players in the standings of each group qualified for the Knockout Stage (29-30 October), which is composed of the Semifinals and the Final. The matches for the 3rd, 5th, and the 7th places will be held as well. 

Final standings, Group A:

1. Nodirbek Abdusattorov - 10 match points (10), 2. Ian Nepomniachtchi - 7 (7), 3. Wesley So - 6 (5,5), 4. Hjorvar Steinn Gretarsson - 1 (1.5);

Final standings, Group B:

1. Magnus Carlsen - 9 match points (8), 2. Hikaru Nakamura - 9 (7.5), 3. Vladimir Fedoseev - 5 (5.5), 
4. Matthias Bluebaum - 1 (3).

Semifinals (29 October):

Abdusattorov - Nakamura
Carlsen - Nepomniachtchi.

Each match in the Knockout Stage will be best-of-4 games. In the event of a tied match, there will be an Armageddon game. 

The time control for each game is 30 moves in 25 minutes, plus 5 minutes for the rest of the game, plus 5 seconds increment per move starting from move 31. 

All matches will start at 6 PM Moscow time. 

The total prize fund is 400,000 US dollars.
