Ian Nepomniachtchi Enters World Champion Title Battle

Fan zones will be opened in Moscow and Russian regions.


The FIDE World Championship Match between Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren is to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan, from April 7th to May 1st. The venue is St. Regis Astana Hotel. The prize fund is 2,000,000 euros, and the winner is entitled to 60%.

The Match determines the best player out of no more than 14 games run to the classical time control of 120 minutes for the first 40 moves, 60 minutes for the next 20 moves, followed by 15 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move beginning from move 61. The first player to score 7.5 points is declared a winner. In case of a tie as a result of 14 games, a tie-breaker match is to be played on May 1.

The opening ceremony is scheduled on April 7. Game one is scheduled on April 9. The games will start at 12:00 Moscow time. 

The Central House of Chess Player named after M.Botvinnik in Moscow has a fan zone set up for the match: commentating on the championship games will be international grandmasters and experts. The entry is free.

Yet another fan area is set up in the hotel complex "Alfa Izmailovo", which runs the Russian youth championships for the first time in Moscow on the same dates as the chess crown match. Besides, the Chess Federation of Russia co-organizes fan areas for the World Championship Match in other regions of our country together with regional chess federations.
