International Chess Festival Starts In Novosibirsk

Chess Siberia, an international chess festival commemorating Konstantin Sukharev, started on July 19 in Novosibirsk. The event is organized by Novosibirsk mayor's office, Novosibirsk Region Chess Federation, and RATM Holding. 

Mayor of Novosibirsk Anatoly Lokot, Novosibirsk Region Chess Federation President Pavel Malein, and Russian national team trainer Alexander Riazantsev attended the opening ceremony and held speeches. 

Two blitz tournaments were played on the first day of the festival. Local IM Andrey Chigvintsev prevailed in the main event, and Yury Filyanin won the junior tournament. 

The festival will continue with junior rapid tournaments, senior tournaments, and the FIDE rated Master tournament, and will run until July 28.
