On May 6, the third game of the Women's World Championship Match between Tan Zhongyi and Ju Wenjun was played in Shanghai.

The opponents discussed the Catalan Opening, where a rather sharp and precise play started quite early. Actually, the rivals were repeating their game of 2013 up to the 12th Black's move. The world champion was the first to decline but her impromptu happened to be unsuccessful: a harsh pawn assault on the 14th move turned out to be a serious mistake which led to an irreparable weakening of the kingside. Black's separated forces could not stand against White's systematic pressure, and Ju Wenjun celebrated victory on move 27.

The score is 2.5-0.5 in favor of Ju Wenjun.

Tan Zhongyi will have the white pieces in the fourth game.
