Anatoly Karpov Visits Isetsky District of Tymen Region
The ex-World champion gave a simul of 50 boards.
Isetsky district is one of the most modern agricultural areas of Tyumen region, famous for its milk and meet products, as well as unique national parks and an excellently supported museum of local history.
Chess is also very popular in the area, and the inhabitants were very happy to meet the outstanding chess player Anatoly Karpov and Gennady Shanturov, president of the regional chess federation. More than 200 chess enthusiasts gathered in the Iset Sports and Health center to meet the legend in person. Galina Protsenko, deputy head of the district, said in her opening speech: “We give a lot of attention to chess in our area. It is a pleasure to say that chess development in two areas – Shorokhovo and Kommunar – is supported by Regional chess center named for Anatoly Karpov.” Galina Nikolaevna thanked the honorable guest and gave him memorable gifts.
Anatoly Karpov said in his speech about his active involvement in social projects. He is a head of a non-profit organization “Green Russia”, which carries out “Forest of Victory” project, and revives the idea of all-Russian voluntary Saturday work, having already gathered about 3.3 million people. Mr. Karpov also gave memorable gifts to the most active sportsmen of the area – chess coach of the Shorokhovo school Sergey Kolmogorov, chess club head of the Shorokhovo school Shamshitdin Aminev, chess club head of the Kommunar library Polina Kuchkuldinova, war veteran Anatoly Klimovets, student Anatoly Pilipchuk, schoolchildren Anzhelika Zagidullina and Oleg Tolstykh.
The meeting ended in a large-scale simul on 50 boards, given by Anatoly Karpov and Gennady Shanturov. The youngest simul participant, Andrey Shteinbakh, was 8 years old, while the oldest participant, Vladimir Malakhov, was 76! No one managed to defeat the professionals, however, Polina Kuchkuldinova and Shamshitdin Aminev managed to draw with Karpov, and Oleg Tolstykh and Sergey Ionin drew with Shanturov.
