Legendary Aeroflot Open Begins in Moscow

The famous “Aeroflot Open” chess competition returns in an updated format. The competition will be held from March 2 to 8 in one of the Russian capital's most famous hotels, The Carlton, Moscow.

The programme of the new festival includes an open tournament for chess players with FIDE rating over 2300 and a stage of the Russian Youth Cup (Open & Girls U13 and U15). 

Among the participants of the main tournament are Alexander Grischuk, the three-time World Blitz Champion, Russian Champion, two-time Olympic Champion and four-time World Champion as a member of the Russian national team; strong Russian grandmasters Andrey EsipenkoPavel Ponkratov, David Paravyan; World Chess Olympiad winners from the Uzbek national team Javohir Sindarov, Nodirbek Yakubboev, Shamsiddin Vokhidov, a well-known Iranian chess player Mohammad Amin Tabatabaei, the leading Armenian chess player Haik Martirosyan, his teammates Samvel Ter-Sahakyan and Manuel Petrosyan, the 2020 Aeroflot Open winner Aydin Suleymanli (Azerbaijan), the two-time World Women’s Blitz Champion, the strongest chess player among girls on the planet Bibisara Assaubayeva (Kazakhstan), the reigning Russian Women’s Champion Baira Kovanova and other players. 

The prize fund of the main tournament is 15 million rubles, of which three million will go to the winner. The children's tournament has an unprecedented prize fund of one million rubles.

Tournament schedule:

March 3-7 - tournament days. 

Technical opening is on March 3 at 10:30 AM Moscow time. The rounds will begin at 11:00 AM and at 5 PM.

March 7 - the Closing Ceremony will begin at 6 PM.

The Aeroflot Open International Chess Tournament is organised by the Chess Federation of Russia and the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation with the support of Aeroflot. The general partner of the CFR is PhosAgro, the partner of the CFR  is Sima-land, the partner of the CFR is Kadun. The media partner of the tournament is a social network Odnoklassniki.
