Lindores Abbey Rapid Challenge: Magnus Carlsen Advances to Semi-final

Sergey Karjakin and Daniil Dubov proceed to the third match.


The second round of the quarterfinal matches of the Lindores Abbey Rapid Challenge finished on Chess24.com. 

Magnus Carlsen once again beat Wesley So 2.5-0.5 to advance to the semi-final, where he will face Hikaru Nakamura. 

Sergey Karjakin, being in a must-win situation, managed to save the second match, winning the fourth game with Black. In the Armageddon game, Dubov had the white pieces and developed an aggressive assault but acted a bit slowly. Finally, Karjakin defeated his opponent on dying seconds. 

Sergey Karjakin won the match and equalised the score, which is 1-1 now. The third encounter between the Russian grandmasters will be played on May 27 as well as the Ding Liren - Yu Yangyi match.
