Magnus Carlsen Triumphs at FIDE World Cup

Thе FIDE World Cup finished in Baku. The tiebreaks of the final and the 3rd place matches were played on 24 August.
Magnus Carlsen started the rapid section of his encounter against Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa with a victory as Black. The second game ended in a draw, which allowed the Norwegian grandmaster to win the FIDE World Cup for the first time in his career. The mini-match against the Indian prodigy ended with an overall score of 2.5-1.5 in favour of the former World Champion.
Like Carlsen, Fabiano Caruana won the first rapid game of the 3rd place match versus Nijat Abasov with the black pieces. Then the American grandmaster achieved a convincing victory in the second encounter, thus winning the match 3-1.
