Mikhail Antipov Wins Handicap Blitz in Dvorkovich Lounge

Ekaterina Lagno was strongest among women.

A traditional handicap blitz tournament dedicated to the Army Day took place in the Dvorkovich Lounge. Stronger players give time odds to weaker or senior players; the largest possible handicap is 2 minutes against 18. Even games are played with 10 minutes given to each player. 

Welcome speeches from Evgeny Vasiukov, Alexander Zhukov, Vassily Ovchinnikov (Mayor of Mozhaisk), and Galina Dvorkovihc preceded the event. Three veterans of Second World War who participated in the event – Vladimir Masich, Vassily Kuritsyn, and Georgy Terikov were congratulated. 

55 players took part in the 9-round Swiss. Grandmaster Mikhail Antipov, who had studied chess at the Dvorkovich Lounge, took first place with 8.5 out of 9. Alexander Morozevich finished second a point behind. Vassily Papin tied for third place with Evgeny Dragomaretsky with 6.5 points. Dragomaretsky took the senior prize. Ekaterina Lagno, who finished with 6 points, won the women's prize. Volodar Murzin, who also got 6 points, won the junior prize.
