Nakamura Wins Grand Chess Tour In Paris

Magnus Carlsen finished second.

US grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura won the Grand Chess Tour in Paris, which was half in half rapid chess and blitz. Nakamura collected 14 points in rapid and 11.5 in blitz, thus having 25.5 combined.

Magnus Carlsen was leading for most of the distance, however, he experienced a slump of the final day of the tournament and not only gave up his lead, but even lost any winning chances with two rounds to go. He consoled himself a bit by beating the rival in the final round. Carlsen's score is 13 points in rapid and 11.5 in blitz.

Maxime Vachier-Lagrave was third with 22 points (11+11).

Final standings:

Nakamura 25.5
Carlsen 24.5
Vachier-Lagrave 22
So 19.5
Aronian 19
Giri 18
Kramnik 15.5
Caruana 14
Topalov 12
Fressinet 10

The next round of the GCP will be played on June 17-20 in Belgium. The lineup will be the same except for one substitution: Vishy Anand will come in for Laurent Fressinet.
