Polina Shuvalova Becomes World U18 Champion with One Round to Spare

The penultimate tenth round of the World Youth Championships among boys and girls under 14, 16, and 18 years old was played in Greece on October 29. 

Polina Shuvalova (Russia) became the world champion among girls under 18 years old having scored 9 points to pass her pursuers by 1.5 points. Our congratulations! 

Viktor Gazik (Slovakia), Igor Janik, and Szymon Gumularz (both from Poland) are the leaders of the U18 open tournament with 7.5 points. Alexey Sarana, Alexandr Triapishko, and Timur Fakhrutdinov have scored 7 points each. 

In the U16 open event, Shant Sargsyan (Armenia) is maintaining the leadership with 8.5 points. Andrey Esipenko has scored 7 points. Jovana Srdanovic (Serbia), Annmarie Muetsch (Germany), Mariia Berdnyk (Ukraine), and Honorata Kucharska (Poland) are leading the pack in the U16 girls' event with 7.5 points. Aleksandra Maltsevskaya is trailing by half a point. 

In the U14 open group, the leaders are Pedro Antonio Gines Esteo (Spain) and Nikolozi Kacharava (Georgia) with 8 points. Dmitry Tsoi, Volodar Murzin, and Konstantin Popov are 1 point behind. In the girls' tournament, Ning Kaiyu (China) is heading the race with 9 points. Leya Garifullina and Eva Stepanyan have got 7 points.
