Two More Rounds to Go in Porto Carras

Russians are chasing the leaders.

The 9th round of the World Junior Championships was played on November 3 in Porto Carras. 

Subramaniyam Bharath (India) leads the Open U8 section with 8 points. Alexandr Poroshin is tied for 5th-7th places with 7 points. In the Girls U8, Dilyana Ivanova (Bulgaria) and Wei Yaqing (China) are leading with 7.5 points, with no players from Russia anywhere near the top. 

In the Open U10 section, Oskar Oglaza (Poland) leads with 8 points. Ilya Makoveev (Russia) is half a point behind, Volodar Murzin (Russia) is tied for 4th-8th with 7 points. Song Yuxin (China) leads in the Girls U10 championship with 8 points. Three Russian participants have two points less and are tied for 12th-21st places. 

In the Open U12 championship three players are tied for the first with 7.5 points, and seven more players, including Arseniy Nesterov (Russia) are half a point behind. In the Girls U12 our Elizaveta Solozhenkina is tied for 7th-10th places, trailing the leader, Nurgyul Salimova (Bulgaria) by 1.5 points. 

Open U14 section is led by Andrey Esipenko (Russia) and Shamsiddin Vokhidov (Uzbekistan), both with 7.5 points. Timur Fakhrutdinov (Russia) has 7 points. R. Vaishali (India) leads the Girls U14 race with 7.5 points, among her nearest rivals are Polina Shuvalova and Alexandra Obolentseva (both Russia). 

Low-rated (just 2167 FIDE) Zhandos Agmanov (Kazakhstan) sensationally leads the Open U16 section with 7.5 points. All his followers are rated in the range of 2300-2490. The highest-placed Russian Alexey Sarana has 6.5 points and shares the 8th-12th places. Fiona Sieber (Germany) and Oliwia Kiolbasa (Poland) are leading the Girls U16 with 7.5 points. Russian participants are well behind in this race – Aleksandra Dimitrova has 6 points, Svetlana Tishova has 5.5 points. 

Iranian Masoud Mosadehgpour enjoys a confident lead in the Open U18 section with 8.5 points. Kirill Alekseenko (Russia) is a clear second with 7.5 points, Daniil Yuffa (Russia) is a clear third with 7 points. In the Girls U18 event our Anna Styazhkina, 3rd seed of the tournament, is tied for 15th-25th places with 5.5 points, 2.5 points behind the leader, M. Mahalakshmi (India).
