RCF Supervisory Board Meets in Moscow

The Board members summed up the year 2016 and discussed plans for the future.

On Friday, December 23, the Supervisory Board of the RCF held a meeting in the Radisson Slavyanskaya hotel in Moscow. The RCF President Andrey Filatov addressed to the guests with a welcome speech, and then passed the speaker's right to the Executive Director Mark Glukhovsky. 

Khalil Barlybaev, Chairman of the Internal Auditors Board, reported no serious violations during the past year. 

Mark Glukhovsky informed on federation's activities in the past year as well as the key results of Russian players. He made a pointed reference to sharp increase of attention to chess in federal and regional mass media including TV following the World Championship match in New York. 

Andrey Filatov laid a primary goal – to launch a weekly chess show on TV. The RCF President also suggested the participants of the meeting to work more actively with Governors and other public authorities in the regions. 

The Deputy Executive Director of RCF Alexander Tkachiev presented a project of the 2017 event calendar, which includes a number of new major tournaments such as Suetin Memorial (January 3-13, Tula), Korchnoi Memorial (August 15-25, St. Petersburg), and another leg of Russian Women's Grand Prix (August 1-11, Naberezhnye Chelny). 

The members of the Supervisory Board approved the Regulation of Sports Sanctions in chess, and a new Regulation of the RCF Disciplinary Commission. The budget of RCF for 2017 was also approved. 

Tkachiev, Glukhovsky, and Filatov all told about the increasing role of Russian national rating, which now serves as a base for awarding the sporting categories. RCF will calculate the rating free of charge, unlike international rating, which is paid for by organizers and/or tournament participants. 

Grandmaster Sergey Yanovsky, head coach of Russian national teams, told about RCF Grandmaster Centers and Sirius Educational Center activities. He also called for broader cooperation between Sirius and regional chess federations. 

Mark Glukhovsky told about charitable and social projects of RCF. The Chess to Orphanages project received special attention due to its utmost importance. The Executive Director informed the Board on the progress and thanked all sponsors of the federation, big companies and private backers alike. 

The current state of the CHCP was also discussed. A major renovation of the building that was carried out together with the Moscow Government is practically finished, and the CHCP will host many events including international competitions in the coming year. For instance, a FIDE Grand Prix event in May will be played in the CHCP. Andrey Filatov called for more active utilization of the CHCP and Chess Museums for meetings with potential sponsors and business partners. 

Gala nights for 80th anniversary of Boris Spassky and 95th anniversary of Yury Averbakh will also take place in the CHCP. 

Following the emotional speech of grandmaster Maria Manakova, the Supervisory Board decided to restore the Women's Commission of the RCF.
