Round 1 of European Team Championship is Played in Crete
Russian teams win their matches.

In the first round of the European Team Championship, the Russian men’s team defeated Slovenia 2.5-1.5 (Nikita Vitiugov won, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Maxim Matlakov, and Daniil Dubov drew their games).The teams of Urkraine, Armenia, Hungary, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, France and other top seeds won their matches as well. However, sensations took place, e.g. the Azerbaijani team (2nd place in the starting list) lost to Italy 1.5-2.5. The matches Moldova-England, Israel-Norway, Slovakia-Poland, and Germany-Greece-2 are drawn.
The Russian team will play against Belarus in the second round.
Round 2 games
In the women’s section, all rating favourites won their matches. The Russian team bested Greece-1 2.5-1.5 (Kateryna Lagno and Olga Girya won, Alexandra Goryachkina made a draw, Valentina Gunina lost).
In round 2, our chess players will face the national team of Czech Republic.
