Russian Team Outplays Peru in Round 5 of World Chess Olympiad in Batumi

On October 28, the fifth round of the 43rd World Chess Olympiad was played in Batumi. 

In the open event, the Russian national team defeated Peru 3-1. Sergey Karjakin and Vladimir Kramnik won, while Ian Nepomniachtchi and Nikita Vitiugov made draws. 

Azerbaijan, Poland, Czech Republic, and Ukraine are leading the pack with 10 match points. Russia is two points behind. 

The Russian women's team won the match against Germany 3.5-1.5. Alexandra Kosteniuk, Aleksandra Goryachkina, and Valentina Gunina celebrated victories, while Olga Girya drew her game.

The US team is leading with a perfect score. Russia is trailing by 2 points.

September 29 is the tournament's free day. 

In round 6, the Russian men's team will play with India, while the Russian women's team will face Armenia.
