Russian Teams Maintain Leadership at European Championships in Batumi

In round 5 the men's team defeated Armenia, women bested Hungary.


The fifth round of the European Team Championships was played in Batumi on October 28. 

In the open section, the Russian national men's team beat Team Armenia 2.5-1.5 (Daniil Dubov won, Dmitry Andreikin, Nikita Vitiugov, and Kirill Alekseenko made draws). In other leaders' matches Ukraine won against England 2.5-1.5 and Croatia made a draw with Azerbaijan.

Standings after round 5:

1-2. Ukraine, Russia - 9 match points out of 10, 3-4. Slovenia, Germany - 8, 5-8. Armenia, Azerbaijan, England, Croatia - 7.

October 29 is the tournament's free day. Round 6 pairings in the leading group are Russia - Ukraine, Germany - Azerbaijan, Slovenia - Armenia, and England - Croatia. 



The Russian women's team won the match against Hungary 3-1 (Olga Girya and Valentina Gunina won, Aleksandra Goryachkina and Alina Kashlinskaya made draws). Team Georgia defeated Armenia 2.5-1.5, while Serbia bested Ukraine with the same score. 

Standings after round 5:

1. Russia - 10 match points out of 10, 2-4. Georgia, Azerbaijan, Serbia - 8.

Pairings of the sixth round in the leading group are as follows: Azerbaijan - Russia and Serbia - Georgia.
