Russians are in Leading Groups at FIDE World Senior Team Championships

Three rounds are played in Prague.


The FIDE World Senior Team Championships are taking place in the capital of the Czech Republic. There are 55 teams from 16 countries are participant in the 50+ category, while the 65+ event is attended by 51 teams from 19 countries. 

Teams from Israel (10 game points) Germany 1, Russia (9.5 points both), Czech Republic 1, and France (9 points both) are leading the race in the 65+ tournament with 6 match points scored. 

The Russian team is represented by Yuri Balashov, Evgeny Sveshnikov, Nukhim Rashkovsky, Evgenij Kalegin, and Vladimir Zhelnin. 

The leaders in the 50+ group with 6 match points are teams from the USA (11 points), Yamal (10.5), Czech Republic (10), Slovakia, Lasker Schachstiftung GK, England 1 (9.5 points each), and Iceland (9).

The lineup of the Russian team from Yamal: Alexander Potapov, Alexander Sergeyev, Jouri Goriatchkin, and Nikolay Tolstikh.

The remaining Russian teams - Moscow (Svetlana Matveeva, Tatiana Grabuzova, Alexander Yakimenko, and Alexander Chudinovskikh) and Russia Women (Galina Strutinskaia, Nina Sirotkina, Tatiana Bogumil, Elena Fatalibekova, and Natalia Titorenko) - have scored 4 match points each.
