Sergei Lobanov Wins Main Event of Moscow Open 2020

Iulija Osmak is triumphant in the women's tournament.


The final games of the RSSU Cup - Moscow Open 2020 were played in the Russian State Social University on February 2nd. 

Sergei Lobanov, the 18-year-old International Master from Saint Petersburg, became the winner of Tournament A, a stage of the Russian Cup. Having won three final games in a row, he scored 7.5 points and managed to pull ahead from eight players by half a point. 

GM Daniil Lintchevski took the second place, while GM Zhamsaran Tsydypov (both from Russia) won bronze.  

IM Iulija Osmak (Ukraine) won Tournament B, a stage of the Russian Women's Cup. A terrific result, 8.5 points out of 9, allowed her to take the first place with one round to spare.

IM Anastasia Bodnaruk, WGM Baira Kovanova, WFM Mariya Yakimova, and WGM Daria Voit (all from Russia) are half a point behind. Thanks to superior tiebreak, Bodnaruk won silver, while Kovanova finished on the third place. 

IM Viktor Ivanov (1st place), GM Alexander Cherniaev (2nd place), and GM Igor Glek (3rd place, all from Russia) scored 7 points out of 9 in the RSSU Senior Chess Cup. 

WFM Larisa Khropova won the RSSU Women's Senior Chess Cup with 6 points scored. WFM Svetlana Chernikova is half a point behind. Lubov Lebedeva (all from Russia) got bronze medal with 5 points. 

The RSSU Amateur Cup finished with a convincing victory of FM Boldoo Erdenepurev (Mongolia), who defeated Kazbek Tukubayev (Kazakhstan) in the final round to secure the first place with 8.5 points out of 9. 

David Buniatyan (2nd place) and FM Aleksey Ivlev (3rd place, both from Russia) finished with 8 points scored. 

Sergey Lazarev, President of the Moscow Chess Federation, Nikolai Bespalov, Deputy Chairman of the Moscow Bank of Sberbank, Georgy Bryusov, Deputy Director, Director of Sports, Entertainment and Special Events of Roscongress Foundation, Oksana Kovaleva, Deputy Sports Director of the All Russia Association of the Blind, and Natalya Pochinok, Rector of the Russian State Social University, awarded the winners and medalists at the Closing Ceremony.   

It is worth remarking that more that 2000 people participated in the 2020 Festival, including the side events.
