Sergey Karjakin Joins The Public Chamber
The Vice-World Champion accepted the offer of Vladimir Putin.
Grandmaster Sergey Karjakin accepted the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to join the new Public Chamber, which is currently being formed. In an interview for RBC, Karjakin noted that as a member of the Public Chamber he will promote healthy lifestyle, family values, and chess.
“I take this offer for several reasons. First of all, I have the utmost respect for Vladimir Putin as politician and person who does a lot for promoting chess, visits chess tournaments, and supports chess players. Bearing in mind the fact that this offer was personally made by him, I consider turning it down wrong. Secondly, as a chess professional, I want to promote chess as widely as possible.”
