СhessEvents Paired Chess Cup Took Place in Moscow

Alexander Morozevich and his daughter were among the players.

Last Saturday Scenario Cafe in Moscow invited chess players to take part in the first СhessEvents Paired Chess Cup. In this format, each side is represented by two players who make their moves in turns and are not allowed to communicate. Russian Olympic Committee Chairman Alexander Zhukov is a well-known proponent of this format and personally organized several tournaments at the ROC. The ChessEvents and Russian Chess School decided to pick the idea and organized an open tournament.

Seven teams took start in the competition. The gem of the tournament was the Morozevich Team – Alexander Morozevich + Maria Morozevich. Both played really well, and only a couple of missed rounds at the start did not let the team joining the ranks of the leaders.

The Team Unknowns – Lev Varnazov, Dmitry Lugovoi – took the first place and won a large chess themed cake. MSU Law Faculty Team – Alexander Korneev, Maria Fominykh – finished second. Team Technology – Vladimir Smetana, Alexander Smirnov – finished on third place.
