Viktor Korchnoi Memorial Started in Saint Petersburg
The tournament is a stage of the Russian Cup.
The open chess festival St Petersburg Summer-2017 is taking place on August 15-28. The venue is Hotel Park Krestovskiy. The programme includes Viktor Korchnoi Memorial - a stage of the Russian Cup (15.08-24.08), a stage of the Russian Youth Cup (15.08-24.08), and a stage of the RAPID Grand Prix (25.08-28.08).
Let us note that the book Viktor Korchnoi's Home by N. Vitiugov, A. Kentler and V. Faibisovich had been released just before the start of the tournament dedicated to the memory of the outstanding grandmaster.
243 players are taking part in the main event. The rating favourite is Gata Kamsky (2678, USA).
