Vladimir Putin Congratulates Dannil Dubov on Winning World Rapid Championship in Saint Petersburg

The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin congratulated grandmaster Daniil Dubov on winning the King Salman World Rapid Championship-2018. 

Dear Daniil!


I would like to congratulate you on your triumph at the World Rapid Championship-2018 with all my heart.  

You performed at the home competition with flying colours, you managed to pull yourself together, concentrate on your play and cope with the tasks you had set. You brought a wonderful New Year's present to your coaches, relatives, friends, and chess fans in Russia with your convincing victory, and bright, beautiful, and skillful play.

It is to be reminded that the grandmaster from Moscow Daniil Dubov scored 11 points out of 15 in the King Salman World Rapid Championship. Half a point behind him were Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan), Hikaru Nakamura (USA), Vladislav Artemiev (Russia), and Magnus Carlsen (Norway). In general, more than 200 chess players were taking part in the tournament.
