Sergey Karjakin Equalizes in the World Cup Final

The winner will be determined on the tie-break.

The fourth game of the World Cup Final was played on October 4 in Baku.

Peter Svidler had Black and needed to avoid a defeat to win the match. He went for a rare line of the Queen's Gambit. The queens were traded rather early. In the middlegame Black missed an unpleasant tactical shot, which gave White a long term advantage. Svidler defended accurately and nearly equalized, but after the time control cracked under pressure, losing a pawn. Sergey Karjakin flawlessly converted his advantage and equalized the match score – 2-2.

The tie-break will be played on October 5. Karjakin has White in the first rapid game.
