The World Team Championship starts in Armenia

Russia is the rating favorite of the event.

The World Team Championship starts in Tsaghkadzor, Armenia on April 18. Russia is the defending champion and rating favorite of the event. Our lineup for the championship: Alexander Grischuk (2794), Sergey Karjakin (2757), Evgeny Tomashevsky (2745), Dmitry Jakovenko (2744), and Nikita Vitiugov (2736). 

Other main contenders are the three-time Olympiad champions from Armenia (Levon Aronian, Gabriel Sargissian, Sergey Movsesian, Vladimir Akopian, Hrant Melkumian), the two-time Olympiad champions from Ukraine (Vassily Ivanchuk, Ruslan Ponomariov, Pavel Eljanov, Alexander Moiseenko, Yury Krivoruchko), and the champions of the latest 2014 Olympiad, team China (Bu Xiangzhi, Ding Liren, Yu Yangyi, Wei Yi, Wang Chen). Strong teams from Israel, Hungary, Cuba, India, USA, and Egypt are also present at the championship. 

The drawing of lots for the round-robin event took place on April 18. Russia received the 8th starting rank. 

1st round pairings:

Egypt-India, Israel-Armenia, Ukraine-Russia, Cuba-Hungary, China-USA.

The event is played from April 19 to April 28, April 24 is a rest day. All rounds except the last one start at 2 pm Moscow time, the last round starts at 10 am Moscow time.
